Burchade Bade is one of the most influential men in the world of Warmblood breeding. As the head of the State Stud at Celle, he is largely responsible for the shape of the modern Hanoverian horse through his selection and promotion of the 150 stallions at the stud. Stallions are licensed only on condition that they pass a stallion performance test at a specially created testing center like the one at Adelheidsdorf, near Celle.

In New Zealand, a stallion may be licensed provided he fulfills the requirements as described in the NZ Hanoverian Society rulebook.
