The Brands of Hanover and Rheinland – Guarantee of Performance

Like no other Stud Book or Register in New Zealand the NZ Hanoverian and NZ Rheinland Stud Books are truly internationally recognised. This is because they are based on selective breeding for performance. Yes! These Studbooks practice quality control. (NZHS has been in charge of managing the NZ chapter of the Rheinland Studbook since 2015)

The result of investment on directed quality control has produced brands in that promise performance and rideability. Mares and stallions carrying these brands provide a reliable source of top genetic material.

For decades these Studbooks have been breeding only those horses that meet strict and tangible selection criteria. These criteria select for traits that are heritable and are important precursors for sport horse performance and rideability.

The refinement of horses is easily seen by the performance results of Hanoverian and Rheinland horses internationally and domestically. The NZ Hanoverian Studbook is ranked 19th on WBFSH rankings – as at the end of August –  for Dressage and 21st for Eventing horses and 50th in Show jumping, with just one horse, Graffiti MH. It is the first Studbook from New Zealand ranked on the WBFSH list since becoming a member in 2018.
