Welcome to East Coast Performance Horses – (ECPH) based in Riversdale, Wairarapa.

(By Robin Potter with editing and support from Jenny and Nicki)

We really appreciate that you have chosen to join the Hanoverian and Rheinland breeding programmes. Your stud has enjoyed major success in the Age Group Jumping Series and indeed, you are a loyal sponsor of those series and also a sponsor of the Young Horse Jumping Championship Show held in Hawkes Bay each December. East Coast Performance Horses is a main sponsor for the Show again in 2024.

East Coast Performance Horses – Jenny Booth and daughter Nicki Hull – have been in the breeding game since they discovered that a good jumping horse was quite expensive to buy so on the suggestion of Jenny’s farmer husband Craig, they began the search for good foundation broodmares. They became partners with Sharlene Workman of Xtreme Sporthorses in the ownership of the two stallions Corofino II Holst. (Hanoverian approved in 2012 by Jurgen Rump) and Cassiano Holst. (Hanoverian approved in 2013 by Dr Ludwig Christmann). Nicki, who worked and rode with and for Phillip and Sally Steiner, was working in Ireland for Francis Connors and through Phillip and Sally, came across their now very important mare Picarla KWPN (Pionier/Oldenburg) born in 1997 – and yes that is the Oldenburg by Inschallah that stood here in NZ at Charlton Stud with Nicoli Fife.

Picarla – quite a beautiful mare:

Nicki was not satisfied with just Picarla though – she made sure that no one got the bloodlines and purchased Picala’s daughter Karla K (Guidam SF/Pionier) after her show career ended. Phillip rode Karla-K at GP level – including a 5th place in the HOYS Premier Stakes in 2014. Her competition career continued until the end of 2014 in the ownership of the Barker family, ridden by Joshua Barker. Phillip and Sally also imported Phoebe Nimmerdor (Ephebe for Ever/Nimmerdor) and competed her, after which Lily Toothill created an impressive record for her at GP level before she also started her breeding role at the Wairarapa farm. There are now second and third generations grazing the farm and competing in the sport from these original and impressive mares.

Jenny and Nicki attribute much of their success to their very good friend Fred Cornege, who stood the stallion Voltaire II (Voltaire KWPN/Nimmerdor) in the nineties in Pahiatua. Fred owned the Felicitation (Winnebago/Fret xx) daughter Garland (Genius) after the Zanders family retired her from competition. The Voltaire II mare, Isabella SL (Indoctro VDL) from Garland appears in their breeding programme producing good athletic types (Camaro ECPH and Kingswood ECPH) and Premium Hanoverian Main Studbook mare Delage ECPH (Dallas VDL). Felicitation (B. Pam Barnett – a Life Member of NZHS) was owned and ridden to Grand Prix dressage by Eric Ropiha and latterly by Penny Castle (now Pearce).

To further bolster their mare herd, Nicki came across a German bred Holsteiner mare, Beate (Askari/Carolus I) that she purchased from the Cera Stud in Australia – and she now graces the fields at the farm. She has produced 2 foals. One by Casall ASK and another by Pegase van`t Ruytershof
